Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser are currently making the rounds on the Dutton Ranch press tour, popping in to chat with journalists and radio hosts about the long-awaited (and finally here!) Yellowstone spinoff. While most questions revolve around their characters, the set, and the storyline, one recent interview segued into a chat about a past cast member and current country icon.
On Friday, May 15, in a sit-down with Absolute Radio Country, Kelly took a moment to gush about her friend, the inimitable Lainey Wilson (aka Abby from Season 5 of Yellowstone).
“To see what Lainey Wilson is doing [now]…she was around during the Covid—we call it the Covid Season because we shot that summer—and, you know, Lainey was putting on—before anyone really knew who she was—she was putting on shows for us at the barn, at the ranch, just the weekends, because we couldn’t go anywhere else,” Kelly shares. “We were all in a family together, so yeah, [it’s] pretty wild to see where she is now… she’s extraordinary.”
In addition to watching Lainey perform behind the scenes during filming, Kelly, Cole, and the Yellowstone cast and crew also attended one of her shows while filming in Texas. “She came to Dallas,” Kelly points out, referencing the Season 5 finale, where Lainey performed at Billy Bob's Texas and was filmed with a live audience from her real-life show.
While Lainey’s role in the Yellowstone universe has come to an end, her career in country music only continues to soar. While Kelly is navigating a new series release, Lainey is embarking on her next chapter: marriage and new music on the way. As for us, we just love to witness them thrive.
