Keep your eyes peeled while you’re watching the new season of Ransom Canyon and you’re likely to spot a familiar face or two. Country music hitmaker Thomas Rhett makes a cameo in Season 2, which just dropped on Netflix.
He’s playing a role he’s quite comfortable playing: Himself. And he’s got a buddy! Fellow star Jordan Davis appears alongside him in Episode 7, singing “Ain’t a Bad Life,” Thomas’s new single, at a music festival.
Series creator April Blair was happy to have them on set, noting that both Thomas and Jordan were sweet as pie. “Thomas Rhett and Jordan responded to the story of Quinn throwing this to save the small town,” she explains. “They were so sweet, humble, down to play, and it just fit the vibe perfectly.”
It’s miraculous that either star was able to find time to shoot a television series considering their busy schedules. Thomas has been on a summer tour, the 2026 Soundtrack to Life Tour, and he’s opening shows for Luke Combs in London this week (July 31, August 1, and 2). And, he just welcomed a new baby. Brave Elijah Akins was born in February—he is the singer’s first son with wife Lauren, but his fifth child.
Jordan knows a thing or two about raising kids—he’s got four—and he, too, has been on tour, with dates planned through October. His new album, Learn the Hard Way, will celebrate its first birthday on Aug. 15.
What Is Ransom Canyon About?
Per the show’s official logline, “Passions run deep in a small Texas town, where ranchers, lovers and rivals struggle to protect their way of life, their legacies and those they care for.”
The series stars Josh Duhamel—portraying rancher Staten Kirkland, who is grieving his son’s death—and Minka Kelly, who plays Quinn O’Grady. They’ve been friends since high school, but toy with a relationship in the show’s first season, and it’s not always happiness and roses.
Season 1 of the Western drama is pretty juicy and includes a lot of ups and downs for the on-again, off-again couple, so you’ll want to watch that before you jump into Season 2. When the show picks back up in its second season, Quinn has been gone to New York for six months to chase her dreams, and when she returns to Texas, there’s a new man on her arm. This is problematic for Staten, who realizes how much he missed her. Or, as creator April Blair puts it, “Land has always taken the forefront in Staten’s mind, and now love does this season. Love is at the forefront of all our stories this season, and it’s really about people fighting for those relationships.”
