Although I love my nearly 100-year-old house, the one thing it’s missing is a front porch. I try to decorate my front door with cute seasonal decor every year, but most of all, my heart yearns for a porch swing. All hope is not lost, though, because I’ve been eyeing these pergola swings on Amazon that I can put on my back patio. This one in particular looks so dreamy.
Without an actual porch to block the sun, I love that this pergola frame comes with a cover. You can slide it across the “roof,” giving you shade wherever you need it. The fabric is treated to be waterproof and UV-resistant (so, less fading too), per the brand. Likewise, the sturdy metal frame is coated to be rust-resistant.
The seat is designed for up to three people (up to 330 pounds each). My favorite feature here is that the back of the seat can be unlocked to lay flat, creating a daybed that’s 38 by 65 inches. You can even anchor the bed if you just want to lounge without swinging. The cushion is 4 inches thick, has the same treated fabric as the canopy, and the back is tufted for a touch of elegance.
Even if you do have a porch, a freestanding swing has a few benefits. One, you don’t have to worry about any structural issues or whether your porch ceiling can hold hundreds of pounds (on the move, no less). It’s a rental-friendly solution since nothing is permanently installed. Finally, it’s mobile and only weighs 89 pounds. With some help, you can move it around for more or less sunlight as the seasons change.
The one downside of this one: It’ll arrive in two boxes, and you have to assemble it. Customers online seem to agree that it takes two people a few hours from start to finish. So, it’s a project—but think of how nice it’ll be to have a shady spot to relax outside every day. Looking for something else? Here are a few more styles to consider.
