Ingredients
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 vanilla bean, seeds scraped
- 1/4 tsp. kosher salt
- 4 large bananas, halved lengthwise
- All-purpose flour, for surface
- 1/2 recipe Basic Pie Dough
Directions
- Step 1Preheat oven to 400°F. Cook sugar, vanilla seeds, and salt in a large skillet over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until mixture is amber and a spatula leaves a trail, 4 to 6 minutes. Pour syrup into the bottom of a nonstick 9-inch pie plate; cool slightly. Arrange bananas cut-side down in a snug single layer on top of caramel, cutting to fit if necessary.
- Step 2On a floured surface, roll 1/2 Basic Pie Dough recipe to an 11-inch circle. Place on top of bananas; tuck edges under and prick all over with the tip of a knife.
- Step 3Bake 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350°F and bake until golden brown, 25 to 30 minutes. Invert onto a serving plate.
