Easter is just days away, but there’s still time for these easy ideas, sure to impress and entertain. It's the perfect time to embrace the simple joys of spirited crafting.

"The long Easter weekend is time for me to slow down and get stuck into messy crafts with my daughter," says Alaina Binks, Country Living's Style & Interiors Editor.

"The kitchen table is covered in pastel-toned paper, ribbon and cake cases as we snip out cake toppers, decorate bunting, and lick our lips to cornflakes mixing with melted chocolate. It's a time we both enjoy."

Make a start on your Easter crafting with these beautiful makes...

1

Spring wreath

Create a wreath with a relaxed, just-gathered look to celebrate the natural, untamed beauty of seasonal blooms.

Wind together sweet-smelling lilac and blossom (blackthorn, wild cherry, hawthorn, pear or plum) with Guelder rose into a natural twig and ivy base. For a step-by-step wreath-making guide, see Country Living's YouTube channel.

Painted eggs

Set up a painting station in the garden and invite friends and family to decorate blown or hard-boiled eggs with paints, crayons or natural dyes made with vegetables.

Lay a wipe-clean tablecloth on a trestle table, provide plentiful aprons and brushes, and let would-be artists experiment with patterns, colors and springtime motifs.

Garnish a ready-made chocolate egg with spring meadow-inspired piping and crystallized flowers (follow how-to advice from The Edible Flower Garden).

Pipe on borders, leaves and blooms of royal icing mixed with food coloring, simply removing the icing with the tip of a knife if you stray from your design. Leave to set in a cool dry place, wrapping in biodegradable cellophane or returning to the original box tied with ribbon, ready to gift.

Bunny ear headband

Ready a fluffle of rabbits to start the egg hunt in the garden by turning Alice bands into playful bunny ears. Bend thin sturdy wire into ears, winding it around the headband.

Four long ovals cut from dress-weight cotton, such as Liberty's Tana Lawn, will make two fabric ears. Sew two with right sides together, turn them out and pull over the wired ears. Hand sew or glue the fabric in place to cover the wire.
