• Luke Grimes is back as Kayce Dutton on the new Yellowstone spinoff series Marshals.
  • That has been confusing for his toddler, who doesn't often see dad in a cowboy hat.
  • Luke is a family man and keeps his wife and son close while he's filming.

Luke Grimes portrays the hunky, rugged rancher Kayce Dutton on Yellowstone and its spinoff series, Marshals. But in real life? That's not so much who he is, especially if you ask his son.

In fact, it seems that daddy looks very out of place in a cowboy hat, to the point that it's funny to see him wearing one. Talking to Jimmy Fallon during a recent episode of The Tonight Show, Luke glows as he tells a hilarious story about his little boy, Rigel, who will turn 2 later this year.

The new father gushes about how proud and excited he was to take his son to his job, the set of Marshals, and to introduce him to his co-stars. But ... "He just kept laughing at my cowboy hat the entire time," Luke explains, "... making me feel very uncool about something I'm supposed to feel really cool about."

The ribbing by his toddler has even continued at home, Luke admits. "Now, when he's at home, he'll find any big, funny thing and put it on his head and start singing a dada song," he says. Literally anything — a bag, laundry — it doesn't matter. Something big that should not be on your head."

Luke Grimes has played the role of Kayce Dutton since the debut of Yellowstone in 2018. While that show centered around the Dutton family and their cattle ranch, Luke was just a supporting star. In Marshals, Kayce is the lead character. That has meant a lot of time on set, and as a new dad, Luke wasn't going to be away from his young family for longer than he had to be.

"They were with me the entire time," he tells People magazine of his family, who stayed nearby while he was shooting the first season of Marshals. "They basically moved to Park City for the entire shoot. They were five minutes from the sound stage, so they would come all the time."

Marshals premiered earlier this month, and per Deadline, the first episode brought in a staggering 9.52 million viewers. Episode 2 will air Sunday, March 8, on CBS and stream on Paramount+ the following day.

Who Is Luke Grimes’s Wife?

Luke married a Brazilian model named Bianca Rodrigues in 2018, and they've led a fairly private life since. She has fully embraced the American lifestyle, including his foray into country music (Luke once told People that Bianca actually taught herself English by watching The Office). The couple welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Rigel Randolph Grimes, in 2024.

Though he grew up in Ohio, Luke has always felt called to the mountains. "I just loved it, but always felt like I couldn't [relocate] because I had to be in L.A. to go on meetings and to auditions trying to get off the ground," he told Country Living in 2024. "At a certain point, I met my wife and it all kind of came together where it felt like I hit a place in my career where I could live somewhere else."

"My wife and I wanted to raise a family somewhere else; I kind of told her about [Montana] and she fell in love with it, too. That’s how we ended up here."

The three of them call the beautiful mountains of Montana their permanent home, and a recent Instagram share from Mrs. Grimes makes it really easy to see why:
