Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani may live a shimmering celebrity life when they're in California, but when they're at home in Oklahoma, they're everyday farmers with dirt on their hands.
On social media this week, Blake gave fans a glimpse of how they're preparing their Tishomingo, Okla. land to grow crops this year. Spring waits for no one, after all, and now is the time to get seeds in the ground.
"This year we decided we're going to do some actual professional gardening, farming type stuff out here," he explains, pointing to long rows of black plastic they've stapled to the dirt to deter weeds. "Me and my wife — her name's Gwen — we were out here putting this plastic out yesterday," he continues, clarifying that it was "just she and I, nobody else."
"We're doing it ... we're really doing it this year ... @gwenstefani and I are stepping it up!!!!" Blake writes as the caption of the post. He shows off a sprawling garden area, which is set at least a football field's length away from their house and is fully fenced in to keep out critters.
"It sucked. It's hard work, but we're going to plant vegetables in here," Blake adds, rattling off the kinds of veggies they'll be growing (peppers, tomatoes, squash and some NSFW commentary about cucumbers). True to his personality, he's cracking jokes throughout the selfie-style clip, even ribbing his wife at one point since she's not around to hear it. He also insists that he doesn't eat vegetables, though as a born-and-raised country boy, that part might be true.
Of everything they're setting up, Blake says his favorite is the sweet corn patch — the largest area — and he's already started tilling the dirt to get it ready for planting. He also proudly shows off his tractor, an older model orange Kubota.
"Spring is almost here, people!" he declares at the end of the clip, running around joyfully.
They know they have to put in the work now, because they've got a busy spring ahead with their night gigs in music. Blake's Las Vegas residency picks back up on May 6, the same day that Gwen's No Doubt residency kicks off at Sin City's iconic new globe venue, The Sphere. It's the 30th anniversary of her band's Tragic Kingdom album, and they'll perform a limited run of shows there in May and June. Blake's dates are only peppered throughout May — at least right now.
It's not known who will keep up with watering the vegetables while they're away. In July, the pair will celebrate their fifth anniversary as a married couple, but they've been together for more than years now after meeting on The Voice in 2014 when both were coaches.
