The Scottish city of Aberdeen has been crowned the cheapest place to upsize in the UK, with the average upsizing cost coming in at £41,406.

New research conducted by Compare My Move analysed data from house price sales across the country to uncover which spots will get you more for your money when searching for that extra bedroom. While Aberdeen came first, Bradford and Plymouth took the second and third spots, respectively, thanks to their affordable properties.

Unsurprisingly, London tops the list for the most expensive place to upsize your home, with the average cost coming in at a whopping £380,115. The seaside city of Brighton and Hove also made the list, with the cost for upsizing sitting at £199,608. While both cities are jam-packed with culture and life, scaling up your home here will set you back thousands.

"We've all been spending more time in our homes because of the pandemic, and they have become a space for everything," Dave Sayce, Managing Director at Compare My Move, says.

Bradford also made the list

"Many now live, eat, work, exercise, and educate their kids under one roof, and some might have realised they could do with some more space, whether this is a bigger garden or a spare room for an office."
