Hitchin Lavender may be famous for their dazzling rows of lilac lavender, but the fields also come alive with beautiful sunflowers later in the summer. Sunflowers usually bloom from late July to mid-August, depending on the weather.

The first flowers are already beginning to open, according to our peek at the farm’s Instagram. Visitors can stroll through the fields, snap plenty of photos and pick their own sunflowers, with each stem charged separately.

Book ahead for the best price, as tickets cost more on the gate and during peak lavender and sunflower season.

On the hunt for a day trip the whole family will love? Head to Stanhill Farm and you'll see a breathtaking sight of growing sunflowers. The farm has just opened its sunflower field for the season. Flowers cost £2 per stem or three for £5, and there’s no need to book. Bring your own secateurs, or pay a refundable £5 deposit to borrow a pair.

One of Scotland’s largest fruit farms, Cairnie grows everything from strawberries to sunflowers, which usually bloom in August, followed by pumpkins in autumn. Visitors can wander through the sunflower field, stop for photographs and pay for any stems they pick to take home. Make a day of it and leave time for the café before you go. It’s well worth the stop.

Over in Wales, Rhossili Sunflowers offers a spectacular display of colour with Worm’s Head and Rhossili Bay as the backdrop. Located on the Gower Peninsula, the fields cover around eight acres and are home to nearly 400,000 sunflowers across more than 10 varieties and colours each year. Visitors can explore the sunflower trail, take photos among the blooms and pick their own sunflowers to take home. A truly magical summer sight, it’s well worth adding to your travel list.

The cheery sunflowers at Adam Henson's Cotswold Farm Park in Cheltenham are sure to brighten your mood. From July to August, you can rejoice in the beautiful sea of colour at the farm. Expect hundreds of thousands of colourful wildflowers, including cheery sunflowers. On Wednesday evenings throughout the season, the farm also hosts free events with live music, food trucks and a bar.
