In September 2019, Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his fiancée, Carrie Symonds, welcomed rescue puppy Dilyn into Downing Street, after a charity saved him from a puppy farm in South Wales.

Who is Boris Johnson's dog, Dilyn?

Dilyn, who is a Jack Russell-cross, was left abandoned with a misaligned jaw, but was luckily saved by the animal charity Friends of Animals Wales. If it wasn't for their intervention, Dilyn might not have survived.

Lovers of animals, both Boris and Carrie were keen to promote Lucy's Law — a crackdown on puppy farms around the country. A spokesman for the prime minister told the BBC: "The PM has always been a passionate supporter of animal welfare and believes in giving animals the best start in life.

"Carrie and Boris are helping to get a very, very vulnerable dog that's otherwise likely to be killed. They are both massive dog lovers."

After rescuing Dilyn, Carrie Tweeted: "Thanks to the wonderful Eileen who rescued Dilyn after she got a tip-off that he was to be dumped by a puppy dealer because he was born with a crooked jaw. Eileen fixed his little jaw and saved his life. She is a hero."

In the 2019 general election, Boris Johnson took Dilyn with him to the polling station. Along with many other pups around the country, Dilyn too was part of the #DogsAtPollingStations trend across social media. Soon after Boris' victory, the new Prime Minister and Dilyn made newspaper covers all around the world, making him one famous pup.

What about Larry the cat?

Larry the tabby cat has lived at 10 Downing Street since February 2011, capturing the hearts of the Great British public and the press teams often camped outside the front door. Also known as Downing Street's chief mouser, Larry was first adopted from Battersea Dogs and Cats home.

While reports said that Larry was leaving Downing Street, the cat is still very much at home with the Prime Minister.
