The top 10 rooms Brits now desire in their home has been revealed in a new study, with indoor gyms scooping the top spot.

Comparethemarket.com surveyed 2,000 Brits and analysed Google search data to uncover what rooms homeowners would create if money was no object — and the answers come as no surprise at all.

Some of the rooms households are daydreaming of include a cinema, library, home office, home bar, swimming pool, and craft room.

With the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic resulting in many of us spending more time at home, research shows that Brits have changed what they now desire in a property. While bedroom sizes and kerb appeal were once deal-breakers, people now want spaces that will cater for both work and play.

"The home gym was most popular with those aged between 35 and 44, with just under 5 per cent saying that's the room which they'd most like to add to their home," explain Compare the Market. "Those aged 35 to 44 were most likely to want to add a home cinema to their home, while those most likely to want to install their own bar were between 18 and 24."

As part of the research, Compare the Market also analysed the volume of online searches for each type of room, and discovered that home bars are actually one of the most popular. This was closed followed by swimming pools, home gyms and cinemas.
