What are the pros and cons of silk pillowcases?

Silk doesn’t absorb moisture or creams from your skin and hair meaning that, if you invest in a silk pillowcase, the night serums you apply before bed actually stay put all night. “A silk pillowcase can really help to keep your skin hydrated and is particularly useful during the winter when your skin is prone to being dry,” says Eilidh.
Additionally, you’re also less likely to wake up with frizzy hair because there’s no static created if you move around in the night.
Finally, the breathable nature of silk means it could help to control and regulate your temperature which can help you get a better night’s sleep.
Some may feel that the negatives of using a silk pillowcase include the higher price tag and the likelihood of having to hand wash them.

What kind of silk pillowcase is best?
There are plenty of brilliant silk pillowcases available to buy to suit all budgets, styles and colour schemes – but there are a few things to consider before you invest. Firstly, you’re looking for the ‘momme’ of the silk, which refers to the weight in pounds (lbs). It's basically the silk's thread count. Generally speaking, the bigger the momme, the higher quality the silk.
Secondly, keep an eye on the dimensions of the silk pillowcase you like, as some only come in a standard size which might not work with your existing pillows.
How often should you wash a silk pillowcase?
You can cold hand wash any silk pillowcase and then gently wring it and leave it to dry naturally. Some silk pillowcases are hardy enough to be washed in a machine and others can even be tumble dried. Always read the care instructions for further information.
Because they come into direct contact with your skin every night, it is recommended to wash silk pillowcases every seven to 10 days – or to fit in with how regularly you like to wash the rest of your bedding.
