Alan Titchmarsh is selling his much-loved Hampshire home after 23 years.

Originally dating from the late 17th century, Manor Farm House is a Grade II-listed property nestled on a quiet lane in the conservation area of the picturesque village of Holybourne, near Alton.

The Gardeners' World presenter and his wife plan to downsize to another Hampshire village property closer to their daughters and grandchildren. According to Countrylife, Alan said he feels that "he still has another garden in him", but is looking for somewhere smaller.

Approached via a sweeping driveway, the house is the result of a sympathetic restoration project. Highlights include five well-sized bedrooms, original features such as oak beams and sash windows, a large drawing room, library, and a traditional country kitchen fitted with bespoke units, an Aga, butler's sink and larder.

When Alan and his wife purchased the property, it needed a little love and care.

"We found woodworm and death-watch beetle and took out 48 skips of rubbish, but we respected the integrity of the house and made no structural changes," the presenter told Countryfile.

"We then put it all back together again, replacing chipboard with floorboards, installing underfloor heating on the ground floor and in the bathrooms and decorating throughout, using bright pastel colours here and there to highlight the elegant Georgian proportions of the interior."

The gardens have served as Alan's pride and joy for over two decades, often featuring on episodes of Gardeners' World.

Stretching to around four acres, the pristine plot features mature trees, well-stocked borders, spectacular water fountains, manicured lawns, a summer house and a brick outbuilding.

With clever gardening tips and tricks up his sleeve (including why we shouldn't get in the way of plants), it's no surprise Alan's garden is flawlessly maintained at every corner.

Beyond the formal gardens, you'll find beautiful wildflower meadows created by Alan to produce displays from late spring to early autumn, as well as a kitchen garden with a vegetable plot and greenhouse. The outside space also benefits from a fenced pond and a small jetty.

Speaking about his planting choices, Alan previously told Country Living: "Topiary and evergreens give you great form you can rely on and I find them enormously satisfying to look at, not just when they are covered in snow but in every season.

"They help to provide the bones of the garden, which really come to the fore in winter."

The property is on the market for £3,950,000 with Savills.
